For a summertime celebration, come to the Detroit River on Monday, June 26, for the 59th annual Ford Fireworks to officially kick off summer in the city. With the theme of, “Detroit! Right Now!!,” the sky will be lit up with more than 10,000 fireworks highlighting the wonderful iconic skyline. The 25- minute show will begin at 9:55 p.m., but be sure to head into the city early for some pre-fireworks events.
From automobiles to a groundbreaking music industry to today’s emerging tech scene, Detroit has always been a city of innovation. For 313 years people have flocked to the city because of its creativity and opportunity. Detroit is a city that is always evolving, always changing and always growing.
Come out and celebrate Detroit’s 313th birthday tomorrow, July 24, 2014. Here are events for the whole family happening throughout the day all around the city.
Party downtown tomorrow, July 24, from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and again from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at various Bedrock-owned buildings. Enjoy art, family-friendly activities and giveaways! Make sure to check out the models of iconic Detroit buildings, a 20-foot-by-12-foot sidewalk chalk installation by metro Detroit chalk artist David Zinn, as well as strolling musicians and stilt walkers. Chase Tower – 611 Woodward
The Chase tower will have banners, balloon artists, giveaways and a Parade Company building model! Be sure to check out the sidewalk chalk art and express your passion for the city and creativity with your own chalk art! Use words or images to finish the statement “I love Detroit because…”
First National Building – 660 Woodward
Go to the First National Building to enjoy balloon sculptures, roaming stilt walkers and a Detroit landmark building model from The Parade Company.
Chrysler House – 719 Griswold
The Chrysler House will have an ice cream soda balloon sculpture and a Parade Company building model!
1001 Woodward Building – 1001 Woodward
Appreciate Detroit’s “birthday cake” balloon sculpture, a magician and oversized games (Chess, Connect 4, Jenga, etc.). Plenty of fun for the whole family!
The Detroit Conservancy has events going on all day and into the evening! Stop by in Cadillac Square and Campus Martius between 11:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. to enjoy the food trucks and stands at Downtown Street Eats. Vote for your favorite 313 t-shirt design and catch performances throughout the day featuring Paul Shonk, Larry Lee & the Back in the Day Band, and a special 313 t-shirt design fashion show at 7:00 p.m.
Spend your evening celebrating Detroit’s 313th birthday with an ice cream social on the riverfront! The Detroit RiverFront Conservancy, Riviere28 and Forward Arts Detroit for Detroit Love will have lawn games, ice cream, music and sparklers in Milliken State Park with free parking at Rivard Plaza from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
In celebration of Detroit’s 313th birthday, a team of local artists have created badges for each neighborhood and will release them on July 24.
Tomorrow night from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. at the Detroit Historical Museum, the Detroit Historical Society will be celebrating this special birthday with some of Detroit’s favorite food trucks: Meanie Weenie, Detroit BBQ and Treat Dreams. There will also be a cash bar and drink specials featuring $2 Atwater beers and music from Motor City Soul Club!
