It’s time to hear the sound of revved up engines!
The Chevrolet Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix returns to DetroitJune 3-5, 2016, featuring an exciting three days of automobile racing and welcoming the Verizon Indy Car Series, IMSA WeatherTeach SportsCar Championship, the SPEED Energy Stadium SUPER Trucks and Trans Am Road Racing Series. Watch professional racers compete on the 2.3-mile racetrack while enjoying live music, additional activities, food and drink.
What You Need to Know
Gates open at 7:30 a.m. Friday, June 3, for Comerica Bank’s FREE Prix Day. Gate admission is free of charge as racers practice and qualify for the following two days. The Saturday and Sunday schedules include several races and championships, including two races from the Verizon IndyCar series at the Chevrolet Dual in Detroit presented by Quicken Loans.
This year’s Grand Marshal is Detroit Red Wings star, and Waterford native, Dylan Larkin, who will utter the famous words “Drivers, start your engines!” on Saturday.
Public parking is not available on Belle Isle during the weekend, but round-trip shuttle service will run continuously from two downtown locations and Windsor, Ontario. For parking locations, fee information, and prohibited items, check out the official event guide.
Other Activities to Enjoy
Make a day (or weekend) out of it by participating in the other activities available throughout Belle Isle. The Meijer Fan Zone includes interactive sporting stations where you can show off your skills at the Football Obstacle Course, Quarterback Challenge, Meijer Speed Pitch and Basketball Shoot Out. Fans can even meet local Detroit Sports Teams and receive free personalized autographs Saturday and Sunday from noon-4:00 p.m..
Enjoy local food and drink in the Coors Light Beer Garden and Food Court, which features the Taste of Detroit, where Andiamo’s, Byblos Café & Grill, Metro Beverages Company, Big Dog Hot Dogs, and several others will offer items for purchase.
Listen to live music throughout the weekend including Detroit’s own rock band, The Romantics, on Saturday evening (approximate start time: 6:00 p.m.) and Morris Day on Sunday at 12:30 p.m..
The Trendy Crafts Show will make its first appearance this year featuring 30 Michigan craft designers selling metal art work, jewelry, paintings and blown glass work. Also new, the Coors Light Lounge allows guests to enjoy refreshments while competing in various games such as Giant Jenga, Corn Hole, Fowling and Beer Pong.
Tickets start at $65 for single-day grandstand seating for adults, $55 for children; multiple-day passes are also available. General admission and reserved seat tickets are available online.
