It’s back, ladies and gentlemen! For the 35th straight year, some of jazz music’s best artists will come together in Detroit for one of the world’s premier jazz festivals. Chris Collins, Detroit Jazz Festival artistic director, pieced together the 2014 lineup that channels the great words of Martin Luther King Jr., “Jazz speaks for life.” Bringing together musicians from around the world and around Detroit, the 2014 Jazz Festival is sure to be a hit once again.
Well-known artists, like Ramsey Lewis and John Pizzarelli, and local jazz legends, like Regina Carter and Freda Payne, will grace the stages lined up and down the streets of downtown between Hart Plaza and Campus Martius Park. As always, the Detroit Jazz Festival is a FREE event and is open to all ages.
If you’d like to hear the music up close, you can purchase a daily “Jazz Pazz” for $100 that guarantees you reserved seating at three stages and includes a voucher for food and drink at participating vendors. For a limited time only, if you purchase the Sunday Jazz Pazz, you’ll also get admission to a private jam session at 11:00 p.m. featuring the Nicholas Payton Trio at the Detroit Marriott at the Renaissance Center’s 42 Degrees North.
Here is a map that lays out all of the stages, merchandise, food, beverage, EMS and restroom locations for the 2014 Detroit Jazz Festival.
