The 46th annual Noel Night will be on Saturday, December 1, 2018, from 11 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. in the Cultural Center and 5:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m. in Midtown. This year over 120 venues are participating to share in what Annmarie Borucki, the special projects manager at Midtown Detroit, Inc., calls a “Midtown-Detroit wide ‘open house.’”
Borucki says Noel Night celebrates “the city’s diverse holiday traditions amid the state’s premier arts and cultural institutions, historic churches, galleries and ever-growing circle of small businesses and restaurants.”
Attending Noel Night is free, although there are a few events that require paid admittance.
If you’ve attended before, you may notice that the hours are a bit different than years past. Most notably, the majority of the venues in the Cultural Center will be closing around 5:00 p.m., including the Detroit Institute of Arts and the Michigan Science Center.
“This will be very different for our audience this year,” says Borucki. “However, the event has grown to be so big and hard to navigate, there is no way you can do or see it all. It was our hope by extending hours for the event that this would help the visitor experience and also potentially reduce traffic congestion if people know they can arrive earlier.”
Another change to the festival this year: a new bandstand area! The Noel Night bandstand has been relocated to the Wayne State University parking lot #70 at Cass Avenue and Prentis Street.
With 120 venues, it can be hard to determine what to do first. We’ve compiled a list of venues and their programming to make your Noel Night planning a bit easier.
