Winter in Detroit is back for its second year with more winter fun for you and your family! This year, Quicken Loans has teamed up with Bedrock and Downtown Detroit Partnership to bring you a variety of cozy, snow-boot-friendly places to shop, eat and play in Detroit’s own winter wonderland.
“It’s been such a joy to see the city come alive for the holidays with all that they’ve put into making sure anyone and everyone who visits has an enjoyable time no matter the age group,” explains Randee Garnett, one of about 40 small business owners that are setting up pop-up shops in downtown Detroit this holiday season. “I love all of the Instagrammable spots, the lights, the heated tents and spaces for families to relax and enjoy themselves.”
Garnett’s shop is in the 1441 Woodward Avenue Collective, but that’s not the only place shoppers can find the perfect holiday gift. For the second year in a row, pop-up shops have been installed in Capitol Park and Cadillac Square, creating a vibrant addition to some of Detroit’s most visited public spaces.
“As a Detroiter, it means everything to be on such a grand stage – Woodward Avenue. Just a girl from the east side given the opportunity to do what she loves tenfold?! Means everything,” explains Daisha Mitchell, owner of Trinkets and Such: A Gift Shoppe for Tastemakers.
Is your holiday shopping all wrapped up for the season? You can still come check out one of the many Winter in Detroit activities to get you and your family in the holiday spirit!
Warm up and kick back inside Cadillac Lodge, complete with a full-service bar, board games and an array of seating options from cozy leather sofas to wooden rocking chairs.
Visit the Greystone Gardens Tree Farm and browse through a selection of winter greenery and fresh ornamentations or stop by any of the surrounding brick-and-mortar retailers for endless gifting options.
Put down your shopping bags and pick up a pair of ice skates as you hit the Campus Martius Park ice rink for a leisurely skate session beneath Detroit’s 60-foot holiday tree. Before heading inside the One Campus Martius lobby to visit Santa for a photo, grab a drink from the arctic-themed concessions area.
Walk under the evergreen tunnel as you make your way from Campus Martius Park to Spirit Plaza. Be sure to stop and take a horse-drawn carriage ride and see downtown Detroit like never before!
In an effort to bring more people downtown, these activities are a way for Detroit’s major players like Quicken Loans, Downtown Detroit Partnership and Bedrock to connect the community to Detroit’s public spaces year-round.
“The Quicken Loans Community Fund knows that great public spaces make people happier, healthier and more engaged with their community. Winter in Detroit is a prime example of this theory at work,” explains George Roberts, director of Public Spaces for the Quicken Loans Community Fund. “We have created amazing experiences across downtown Detroit that will bring all Detroiters together for an affordable, accessible and fun holiday experience.”
So, if your family isn’t up for the ol’ over the river and through the woods trip to Grandma’s house this year, bring them straight down Woodward Avenue instead to eat, shop and play at Winter in Detroit. For a complete list of places to see and things to do, check out XODetroit.com.
