Mark your calendars! Soaring Eagle Casino and Resort presents the eighth annual General Motors River Days, beginning on June 19 and running through June 21 on the Detroit Riverfront.
Festivalgoers are in for an exciting experience. This year, River Days has several new features, including a special preview of the festival, two 300-foot zip lines, airshows conducted by the Tuskegee Airmen and much more. There will also be musical performances from seven-time Grammy Award winner Gladys Knight, founding member of Bad Company, Paul Rodgers, Chanté Moore, Jagged Edge and more.
The fun doesn’t stop there. Live sand sculpting, Diamond Jack River tours, carnival rides and jet ski demonstrations will also be taking place throughout the weekend. Families are encouraged to stop by the Flagstar Bank Kids Zone, where there will be recyclable crafts, face painting and performances by a variety of local and national talent on the Meijer Kids Stage.
With all of the festival activities, you are bound to acquire an appetite. No need to worry because Pepsi is sponsoring the Taste of Detroit Food Court. Participating restaurants include Big Mike’s Southwestern Grille, Baja Smoothies, Fun Foods and others. With so many options in one place, this is the perfect opportunity to mix and match some of the most popular cuisine in Detroit.
If you would like to venture off of the Riverfront, there is always the option to try an assortment of food at one of the Detroit food trucks. Food trucks such as Motor City Franks, the Mac Shack, Go! Sy Thai and several others constantly circulate throughout the city of Detroit. Follow the food trucks with this handy website.
The admission fees to the General Motors River Days will be $3 before 3 p.m. and $5 after 3 p.m. The money will go toward supporting the non-profit Detroit RiverFront Conservancy. There is also the opportunity to enter the event for free on Friday if you come between 11 a.m.-5 p.m. You won’t want to miss out on a weekend filled with fun for everyone!
