Detroit Daycare

Your Downtown Detroit Daycare Options

You might be hesitant about sending your kid to a downtown daycare, but speaking from experience, I can tell you that there’s absolutely nothing to be afraid of. My son used to attend daycare in Novi, but having him downtown is so much more convenient, and I feel good knowing that he’s close by. If you live or work downtown, here are a few downtown daycare centers you should consider for your child’s early education.

Midtown Montessori

OK, so it’s not technically downtown, but it is super close to I-75! One of Detroit’s hidden gems, Midtown Montessori is the top spot near downtown Detroit for parents who are looking for a Montessori curriculum. In a Montessori classroom, kids have their choice of many specially crafted learning activities, and they’re gently guided by the teacher to complete these activities while they work at their own pace. The Midtown Montessori curriculum offers an array of daily activities which are complemented by weekly Spanish and yoga lessons.

Inside a beautiful two-story building at 3420 Cass Avenue in Midtown, you won’t find a more convenient location. Midtown Montessori offers year-round care for infants, toddlers, preschoolers and kindergartners, and they’re now enrolling kids ages 5–8 for their summer program. The summer program costs $175 per week, or $150 a week if your child is enrolled for the entire 10-week session. Call (313) 224-5046 to learn more, or visit

Boll Family YMCA Child Development Center

I toured this center when I was looking at downtown options for my son, and I have to say, I was quite impressed. Offering affordable care for kids from 6 weeks to 5 years, the YMCA provides programs that encourage healthy development for children. And here’s a bonus you won’t find at any other daycare center: You can sign your preschooler up for swim lessons during the day!

The Boll Family YMCA is located at 1401 Broadway Street in downtown Detroit. To learn more about the Boll Family YMCA Child Development Center, call (313) 309-9622 or check it out online!

Fox Tots Child Development Center by Bright Horizons

Located in the Compuware building right in Campus Martius, the Fox Tots Child Development Center offers Monday – Friday care for children ages 6 weeks through preschool. Its gorgeous facility features an indoor and outdoor playground right in the heart of downtown Detroit.

If you’re looking for a part-time schedule, Fox Tots could be an option for you. In addition to the full-time care option, 2- and 3-day schedules are available.

Offering care for children ages 6 weeks to 5 years, ChildTime is located in the Renaissance Center. The center currently offers enrichment programs such as yoga classes, gym classes and Mundo Kids, a language and cultural appreciation class.

If you work an irregular schedule, or if you’re a stay-at-home parent who just needs a day off every once in a while, you’ll be happy to know that this ChildTime location offers a Flex Care option where you can drop your child off for the day. You can purchase tuition for this program in five-day increments. When you’re ready to use your days, you just need to provide 48-hour notice.

If you’re interested in ChildTime, call (877) 543-6834 to schedule a tour, or visit

Nothing beats the convenience of having your little one just a short walk or drive away from the office. And you’ll never have to worry about beating the rush-hour traffic to pick your child up from school, which makes any of these daycares a prime choice for working parents in the downtown area.

    1. Hi Kat! Thank you for your comment. KinderCare does sound like a great daycare option! The goal of this specific article was to mention Downtown Detroit daycare options for those who live or work in the city, as it would be more convenient. While there are KinderCare locations in Metro Detroit (Southgate, Sterling Heights and Dearborn) there doesn’t seem to be any locations in the immediate downtown area. Thank you again for your comment! – Allison
