Inaugural Festival Of Books Encourages Detroit To Turn The Page – Opportunity Detroit

Eastern Market After Dark

If you are a fan of Eastern Market, where there are incredible shops, vendors, fresh food, and a lot of community, then you are in for a great surprise. Eastern Market has an event every summer called, Thursday Night Market. Every 3rd Thursday in the summer, people come to enjoy socializing with a few dance moves, a great meal, and endless shopping! Yes, you read that right, on Thursday nights this market is transitioning into a party for everyone to come enjoy and take a load off.

People are already enjoying this magnificent 3rd Thursday. It began on June 21, and will continue on July 9th, August 16th, and September 20th from 5:00 p.m.- 10:00 p.m.

If you stop by, make sure to take home a souvenir from a variety of shops and shed vendors. Signal-Return is a letter press workshop that sells beautiful custom-made posters and cards. They really do an awesome job with showing off their skills and providing what their customers envision. They are also accompanied by the gorgeous Kima Sunshine who enjoys selling vintage inspired wraps, dresses, and even headbands! So many women love wearing the unique patterns, and have fun being cool and cute in Detroit’s hot summer sun. There are other retail options such as Detroit vs Everybody, Salikas’ Jewels, and New Millennium Books, so don’t miss out on these great opportunities as well.

To get the community more enthused, DIME (Detroit Institute of Music Education) will be directing the live music every Thursday. DIME is a music institute for those who want to take their talents to the next level. From singing to playing instruments, DIME assists with allowing artists to host their own events and meeting those who have become successful. They also have classes to allow you to learn and grow in the industry that best fits you. If you ask me, I say having DIME to perform will be an experience you don’t want to miss!

The party won’t be a party without the delicious food and drinks this night has to offer. Here are a lists of food places to check out:

Thomas Magee’s has an old school taste when it comes to their drinks. They serve Bourbon Sweet Tea along with a variety of craft beers and whiskey. Another great place to visit is Gather. They have mouthwatering food such as burgers, crispy chicken, and freshly made fish. Along with this delicious food, colorful cocktails and fruity drinks are available to help have a good time. There will also be new and upcoming talented people who want to show off their chef skills and new ideas. If there is anything to get excited about it’s a reverse happy hour. Stache International will be serving their drinks half off from 10:00 p.m.- midnight.

The Focus Hope Charity Beer Festival will also be taking place. The beer festival is the only section of the night that you will need to purchase a $20 ticket and has an age restriction.

Eastern Market will be updating their Facebook page and you can stop by and ask the friendly staff questions on Saturday 7:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m., Tuesday 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m., and Sunday 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. If you would like to join the party, or are interested in what Eastern Market has to offer, head to 1445 Adelaide St., between Sheds 2 and 3.
