As a huge Sy Thai fan, I was ecstatic to find out they had a food truck (or “truk” as the Sy Thai folks call it) that would be taking part in Downtown Street Eats.
Although the “Truk” menu is limited compared to their extensive brick and mortar location options, Thai lovers will not be disappointed with the authentic offerings. On the day I went, the short but sweet menu consisted of two appetizer options, Spring Rolls and Crab Cheese, two entrée options, Pad Thai and Sesame Chicken (served with a side of rice and vegetables) , as well as some traditional Thai beverages, mango juice and coconut juice, and a few common beverage offerings. The “Truk” menu rotates often but there will always be at least two appetizer and two entrée options.
I ordered the Pad Thai. Served piping hot with the traditional crushed peanut, bean sprout, green onion and lemon wedge garnish, I was extremely impressed that something so delicious came out of a food truck! Although the Pad Thai comes with chicken, I substituted fried tofu. The friendly and accommodating staff also let me know I could substitute the chicken for fried tofu in the “Sesame Chicken” entrée. So this “Truk” is definitely a great option for vegetarians!
The “Truk” even offered a variety of hot sauces, readily available to spice up your meal. I generously topped my Pad Thai with Sriracha and enjoyed it while taking in the Campus Martius scene. I can’t wait until Go Sy Thai! returns to Cadillac Square for the next edition of Downtown Street Eats, you should definitely give it a “Thai,” you will not be disappointed.
