Opportunity Detroit Radio: June Guest Highlights

Detroit can be a really fun place to be in the summertime! Paul W. Smith (WJR) and Stephen Luigi Piazza (Quicken Loans) want to use their Opportunity Detroit radio show to highlight all of the coolness and innovation that’s happening in the Motor City. Tune into WJR-760 AM every Friday night to get the latest from their guests.

Here are just a few of the guests featured in June:

Learn about a company that’s incorporating positive sayings in apparel designs. Detroit Respect was founded by Colin McConnell and Michael Haas to reflect some of the positive things from the Motor City’s past, present and future. They use their locally-based clothing line to relay positive sayings, such as “Believe there is good in Detroit.” The clothing line includes apparel for adults, children and even pets. Jeanette Pierce is the director of community relations for D:hive, which recently launched the Detroit Experience Factory (DXF). DXF is a challenge aimed at inspiring visitors to experience as many places as possible in and around Detroit. People can enter the contest between now and September 1, and the person who visits the most places will win the Ultimate Detroit Experience package – valued at more than $1,000. Participants must use social media to post photos of themselves at various locations using the hashtag #DFXchallenge.

Meet the man who is bringing a high-end retail experience to downtown Detroit. Matt Caputo is the CEO of NoJo Kicks, which sells collectible sneakers, tailored jeans and custom hats. NoJo Kicks differentiates itself from other clothing stores by carrying rare and exotic designer items. The store, which opened on June 23, is located at 1220 Library Street. NoJo Kicks offers luxury products with a Detroit spin that can’t be found anywhere else in town. To learn more, visit
