What do a volleyball court and four basketball half-courts have in common?
They’re now located in Campus Martius!
It’s been an eventful summer for one of our city’s most cherished locations. We celebrated Detroit’s 313th birthday and Campus Martius Park’s 10th anniversary last week, but the downtown party is far from over! As part of the Summer in the Park series, Detroit’s Gathering Place became home to a brand-new QL Sports Zone last Friday.
Located in Cadillac Square just north of the First National Building, the new sports installments are completely complimentary and open for public use. Feel free to start a pick-up game with friends, family members or colleagues! All Detroiters are welcome every day on a first-come first-served basis. The Games Kiosk, located on Cadillac Square’s east side, will provide basketballs and volleyballs for checkout from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. every day.
Additionally, three scheduled basketball activities are also open to the public:
- Roasting Plant 3 on 3 Challenge: Ball with your buddies! Sign up as an individual or with three friends (one substitute player) and bring your A-game every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. or from 7:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. Think you’ll make it to the final tourney in September? Sign up today!
- Lunchtime Lightning: Remember knockout, your favorite childhood challenge? Relive your basketball glory days from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. every day of the workweek by participating in this courtyard classic. Sign up to play here.
- 3-point shootout: Come out between 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday to prove your long-shot skills! Read rules and sign up to participate here.
Be sure to sign the required liability waiver at the kiosk before playing.
The basketball courts will stick around until October 5. The sand volleyball court will close on August 22 to make way for the Detroit Jazz Festival, coming to liven up the D until September 7!
Thanks to a partnership with the Detroit Sports Zone, the QL Sports Zone will also be hosting youth organizations, schools and faith-based groups throughout the summer and fall. Interested in reserving a court or participating in a scheduled program? Call (800) 450-7167 or click here.
