Rockin’ on the Riverfront Returns July 8 – August 12

Are you ready to “rock and roll all night?”

Every summer, thousands of rock ‘n rollers gather at the GM plaza to experience a free concert full of family fun. On July 8 at 8:00 p.m., the Chevrolet Rockin’ on the Riverfront summer concert series kicks off with Michael McDonald from the Doobie Brothers.

From ‘70s-era hits like “What A Fool Believes” to solo jams like “Keep Forgettin,” McDonald is sure start off the summer with a bang!

Celebrating 11 seasons at the Detroit Riverfront, ROTR welcomes crowds every Friday night through August 12 for free concerts and delish Detroit food.

If you haven’t attended a Rockin’ event, we have all the information you need to plan for a fun night out, including the dates, times, concert performers, and food vendors that’ll make you “keep on shouting!”

Nothin’ But A Good Time

With the Riverwalk as a beautiful backdrop, crowds are able to experience all the natural beauty of the Motor City, while sampling some of the city’s finest foods.

This year, Andiamo is providing the food and beverage available for purchase during the concert at several locations across the plaza.

Per tradition, 94.7 WCSX-FM held the Rockin’ Wars voting competition to determine the opening acts. The winners were announced early this month.

  • July 8: Michael McDonald
  • July 15: Don Felder of the Eagles (opening act: The Gasoline Gypsies)
  •  July 22: Blue Oyster Cult (opening act: Red Baron Count
  • July 29: Grand Funk Railroad (opening act: BaddogUSA)
  • August 5: Starship (opening act: The Zotz)
  • August 12: Bret Michaels (opening act: Mad Rabbit)

Summer’s Gonna Rock

Performances are held from 8:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m. Admission is free and concert space is first come first serve.

Starting at 5:00 p.m., concert parking with be available for $5 per vehicle. Garage location and directions can be found on the website or check out our list of popular parking spots.

Make the most of your time in Detroit by checking out local restaurants near the RiverWalk like Andiamo Detroit Riverfront or Joe Muer Seafood. Ask for reservations on their outdoor patios, which overlook the Detroit River and the stage. Now that’s what we call dinner and a show!
