The Meridian Winter Blast presented by Quicken Loans (formerly known as the Motown Winter Blast), has become a Detroit tradition. Every year, thousands of metro Detroiters come downtown to beat the winter blues and have a great time in the city – and you can, too! Spice up your winter as the Meridian Winter Blast returns to Campus Martius from February 6–8!
Last year was the return of the snow slide. This year packs just as much excitement with everyone’s returning favorites and plenty of new attractions, like the zip line presented by Bedrock Real Estate Services. That’s right. You can zip 300 feet across downtown Detroit! How cool is that?
With so many attractions at Winter Blast, it’s hard to decide which one to do first! Don’t worry, we’ve made a list of our top 10 reasons to visit this year’s event:
1) The Meridian Health Plan Snow Slide
The snow slide is the headline event at Winter Blast. This snow slide is 200 feet long, takes days to assemble and it’s always a favorite of kids and adults alike. I mean, who doesn’t like sliding down a massive mound of snow? It’s a great way to celebrate the winter season in downtown Detroit!
For $3 a ride, you’ll find the slide of a lifetime on Michigan Avenue. (Get there early to line up!)
2) Bedrock Zip Line Adventure
Yeah, you read that correctly. Bedrock is bringing Detroit its first ever zip line experience, right in the heart of downtown!
Starting on Woodward Avenue between State Street and Gratiot Avenue, any thrill- seeking Winter Blast-goers can zip 300 feet through the air. The ride lasts about 20 seconds, but it’ll be the coolest 20 seconds of the event!
Two people can even ride at the same time! Tickets are $10 for one rider, or $15 for two.
3) The Music Stages
This year, Winter Blast has three stages offering everything from kids’ entertainment to rock ‘n’ roll!
The Michigan Lottery Stage and the Greektown Casino Stage will keep music lovers enthralled throughout the weekend, while the Quicken Loans Stage is perfect for families with its children’s entertainment.

4) Dog Sledding Exhibitions
The dog sledding exhibition is a Winter Fest favorite! Once again, Amanda Vogel and her Snomad Racing sled dogs will entertain the crowd with a presentation. Vogel and her sled dogs have over 10 years of experience and have competed all over the world!

5) The Flagstar Bank Ice Garden
The ice garden is full of ice sculptures of all sizes, including a large sculpture of “The Spirit of Detroit,” and Detroit Red Wings-themed pieces. There will also be live ice carving demonstrations on Friday. Make sure you stop by the ice chairs and the ice bar while you’re there!
Don’t forget to mention the #MerdianWinterBlast while you’re out at the event this weekend!
